Greetings and salutations to all, and welcome back to Vvarx's 'Year in Review'!

Guys do you realize that I started doing these in 2013? And that we're in 2020 now?
My brain doesn't understand. 2020 just sounds so ... futuristic.

Crazy stuff.

Anyway, as per Vvarx tradition, a lovely and heartwarming thanks from the bottom of my heart to my new watchers this year!
:iconanyadouc: :iconw0lfexe: :iconadamfrankenstein: :iconlynnajens: :iconwitchofthenight:

This year also marks me reaching over 100 watchers, which is ... pretty dang swell m'dudes.
Thank you all, watchers old and new, for making such a milestone possible. I may not be very active, but I every fav or kind word means the world, so thank you.

NOW, 2019 - A RECAP!
-In January last year, my Uni team began work on COLD SUN, our third-person adventure, stealth game. By the time we started working on what would be the finished game in september, our team amounted to 24 people, making the whole experience, chaotic, amazing, stressful, fufilling, exhausting, but ultimately an incredible expericence. Our teachers were impressed by the scope and our fully-functionning AI system, so needless to say, we were all pretty proud.
After making up for lost sleep, I can take a step back and confidently say that this is one of my favourite projets I've had the pleasure of working on with one of the most talented teams I know.

I've also finaly settled on a specialization - UI (User Interface) design, which is nice, because it touches more on 2D stuff and animation, which are where I'm more comfortable I think.
I'm still nervous about stuff, but hopefully i'll be able to sharpen up my skills and you know ... get hired.

When I graduate.
In May.
...
IN MAY PEOPLE!

In May, I end nearly 2 decades of schooling. I have never NOT been a student.
I have no idea how to feel.

So before I begin dwelling too much on that, uh, TIME FOR OTHER 2019 NEWS:
  • Fell deep and hard into Frankenstein (mostly because of the musical, as to be expected), and found a muse in the form of Creature. I don't really know why. I just love him. So much. Expect more of best monster boy in 2020.
  •  Also, My Amen reprise animatic is at like, 2.1k and I am freaking out in utter joy. It's putting me in the mood to make more animatics, which I've always wanted to do, but never felt I had ... the skills for? But since giving it a shot this year, I'll probably make more.
  • Speaking of musicals, got to see Come From Away, which was moving and gorgeous, and makes me want to go see more.
  • Got to see one of my favourite bands, Bastille, in concert and was like, 20 feet away from the stage!
  • I realized my appartement had no plants, so now I have one. Yay! Am also attempting to grow some potted herbs for my kitchen.
  • Went to a korean karaoke place for the first time (the private room ones) and it was AMAZING! My thirst for karaoke KNOWS NO END!
  • Bought a pair on Converse shoes, which I had wanted to do for YEARS but never did, and despite a month of blisters, am now very statisfied with said shoes.
And that's all I can think of at the moment!

So yeah, 2019 was a year with a lot of firsts I suppose. And althought 2020 will be a lot of lasts for me, finishing Uni and all, it's also gonna see it's fair share of firsts.
So if you're afraid of 'lasts' (kinda like I am now), just know that 'firsts' can be pretty swell too ...

It's gonna be ok.

Happy 2020 everone!

Darn, I missed my regular New Year's update!
Just pretend it's still 2018 for me, would ya?

Anyway, yeah, welcome back to Vvarx's year in review!

First off, the tradition continues! A huge thank you to all you lovely folks who happened to find my profile, like my art, and decided to stick along for the ride. Thanks a ton guys.
:iconelorawinn: :icondapplep: :iconoragespark: :iconwhisperanzarose:

:iconrossramosx: :iconpolakfury:

As for a recap, Uni has been going well, abeit busy and somewhat stressfull, but I get to work with an amazing group of people that make the long nights worthwhile.

Have been participating in some 48h GameJams , been part of some cool team projects ( we made a first-person short horror game that impressed our teacher, so that was pretty cool) and yeah, just kinda been figuring out what I want to do.
I really enjoy pre-production stuff, like concept art, game design and pitching, so probably will be gearing myself towards that.
Probably. I dunno, things may change. I'm not good at making decisions oh boy.

Uh, let's see ... in unrelated 2018 news:
-Have officially been living on my own for over a year
-Went backpacking in May. Want to do that again
-I got a new tablet (Intuos Pro S)
-Went to an Anime Convention for the first time and probably embarrassed myself infront of an artist I love
-Became mildy obsessed with the Youtube animated series Confinement (seriously check it out, it's great). Also Super Science Friends.
-Became mildy obsessed with Spider-Man (Tom Holland broke me in Infinity War and I am still raving about Into the Spiderverse)
-Became mildy obsessed with making curries. Mmm ... curries.

And ...  that was pretty much my 2018!

As for 2019, well, I'll give you the standard health and happiness best wishes to you all, but also, there is just SO MUCH STUFF I'm excited for this year!

Such as:
-My school is moving to a new, bigger location downtown. Rad.
-Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far from Home
-How To Train Your Dragon 3 (my heart will explode in Hiccup and Astrid are married, ah!)
-Attack on Titan season 3.5 (or 4, I'm not sure what we're calling it but WOOHOO, WE'RE HEADED TO SHINGANSHINA BABY! MY TEARS ARE READY)
-Stranger Things season 3
-More Confinement episodes (CONNOR, WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THAT IKEA!)
-MORE CURRIES, HELL YEAH!

So yeah, Happy 2019 everyone!

-Vvarx

P.S.
And to conclude, a joke.
People ask my where I see myself next year.
I dunno, does it look like I have 2020 vision?

It’s that time of year again, m’dudes! :D
That’s right, it’s time for my yearly update, aka. basically the only journal entry I ever seem to make!

Now, as per tradition, I want to start off by thanking all the lovely people who watched me in 2017 (and of course, my OG watchers who have been with me since the beginning). This year, I was able to meet and chat with a lot of amazing artists who’ve inspired me immensely with their kind words, comments and amazing art!

Thank you so much guys and I hope you all continue to enjoy my art!

Anyway, let’s talk 2017.
This year, I turned 20, marking my official departure from teenage-hood, I’ve moved to the city for school and overall, 2017 has probably been one of my most ambitious years, filled with some big, and honestly, pretty terrifying decisions concerning my future, haha!

I started applying for Uni in February and March. I had honestly planned on going into graphic design, but I had applied to 3 other places as backup, including a 3D animation and design school. This of course, was a pretty nerve wracking process, seeing as spots were limited in all but one of those programs. I sent in my Portfolio, my motivation letters, passed a few interviews and crossed my fingers for the next few weeks.

Fast forward to the Spring. It’s almost the end of my Cégep and I’m finishing up my final exams. In that same week, I get news that two of my Uni choices had been rejected, including the graphic design program I was hoping to get into. Needless to say, I was a nervous wreck that week, freaking out about what I would do if I couldn’t get into any of my choices and having an existential crisis ranging from “It’s just a school, calm down” to “Holy shit, I am just one complete screw up, aren’t I? Oh God, what have I done”.

Yeah.

Thankfully, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because a few days later, I got the confirmation that I had been accepted to the 3D animation and design school and looking back, it was probably the best choice out of all. The school is smaller, but a lot more close-nit, my classmates are a great bunch of people and the teachers are really into what they do. Plus, the job opportunities are a lot more diverse in this program, so that’s a relief for both me and my parents, haha! It’s a new challenge, but an exciting one and in the end ... I think everything turned out for the best. Yeah ... :)

So yeah, 2017 is now over, and I wish everyone all the best for the new year.
I mean sure, we had natural disasters, the increasing fear of WW3, and fidget spinners, but all in all, this year hasn’t been too bad ...
But let’s just hope that next year is better.

Now, before we usher in the New Year, I want to share with all of you a Billy Joel song that I honestly should have posted in last year’s journal but hey, it’s still 2017 in my time zone, so I’ll allow it.
This is one of my favourite underatted Billy Joel songs, and seeing the state of the world today, I feel like this song is pretty fitting.

Take care everyone, thank you all for everything and I’ll see you next year.

Hello you, lovely people of the internet!

As we sweep the dust of 2016 under the carpet (along with all those dead Harambe memes) let us usher in a New Year; may it bring happiness and good health to you all!

First off, this January will mark my 5-year anniversary here on Deviant Art!
I can't believe that I've been around here so long. It just feels like yesterday that I was that nervous barely-teen who was freaking out because this was the very first website I ever made an account on.
I'm working on something special to celebrate, so expect that in the upcomings weeks. *coughDrawThisAgainMemecough*

Now, for the tradition! I'd like to thank all the lovely people who happened to stumble upon my gallery this year and decided to stick along. So to ...
:iconskenberg:
:iconbigtoast00: :iconsafirasart: :iconrisingkirin: :iconoraki23:
:icontoffefe: :iconrawbeat: :iconmadokaworstgirl: :iconwatchtheskiies: :iconandailite47:
:iconcaliccia: :iconchicosredhead: :icongeist19: :iconpaintfeathers: :iconpatar-03:
...I just want to say a huge THANK YOU for watching me this year and following me in my artistic endevours.
Your comments, your favs, it all means a lot to me and I read every one of them with great appreciation! Thanks guys!

So, how was 2016 for me? Well, although not bad per say, it was a year of ... planning. And challenges.
I'm currently getting my things ready to apply to University in graphic design, so I've been busy getting my portfolio together and working on more "professional" projects (posters, logos, stuff like that) in my spare time.
It's stressfull. I'm a very nervous person naturally, so diving head first into something is a bit freaky. But I feel like I'm doing the right thing. That's good.
And then of course, there's the question of finding an appartment, and roomates and living away from home, but ... I'd rather not think about that just yet. Ugh.

As for school, I've had some good practice this year art-wise, seeing as I was appointed head editor for my Cégep newspaper, so doing the layouts and logos helped me develop some new skills.
I took a Photoshop and Animation class last semester, which was really fun and interesting and I got to work on some pretty cool projects with some pretty cool people!
My film class also made a film! I was the director of photography, so I was able to put my storyboarding skills to good (if not decent) use. My film teacher liked them, so at least that's a good sign!

So yeah, that about covers most of what I've been up to these past few months. Hope the recent wave of art didn't overwhelm anyone, haha!
I'm on break for now, so I was happy to get back into the drawing groove after nights spent editing our film; I've probably uploaded more in the past 2 weeks than in the past 6 months!

So wherever you are, whatever you may be drinking (tea for me) let us raise a glass ... :music: TO FREEDOM - SOMETHING THEY CAN NEVER TAKE AWAY! NO MATTER WHAT THEY TELL YOU! :music:

Darn right that's a Hamilton reference.

I regret nothing.

Anyway, happy 2017 everyone!

Greetings internet people!
Woah, 2015 is already over? Gee, what a year!

As per tradition, I'd first like to thank all of you wonderful people who took the time to watch my art this year!
:icontheawesomer123: :icon00-jackielantern-00: :iconleonidafremov: :iconborntorage: :iconviettheasian: :iconmental-mocha: :iconwazzaldorp:
:iconthatgnome: :icongolden-brush: :iconk0rvid: :iconkentwothree: :iconkuleshovevgeniy: :iconohforcryingoutloud:

I know how cliché this sounds, but I really do appreciate all your views, comments and favs!
I just really love talking to you guys and all that good stuff: if not for your feedback, I don't know if I would be here, y'know! So, thanks guys!

Anyway, 2015 was a big year for me, full of changes, new experiences and overall ... I dunno, more confidence?

First off, this marks the almost-1-year anniversary of when I started my Icarus comic.
Although it was for International Baccalaureate, it was a HUGE leap for me, forcing me to work on both story and more complex backgrounds and characters.
For me, it was quite an unnerving experience, because it was the first time I worked on a project of that scale AND have present it to an audience.
Of course, I'll probably look back at this in a couple of years and cringe like hell, but overall, I'm pretty happy about it and it helped me pinpoint stuff I'm good at and stuff that needs improving.
Icarus is, for me, the first time I've actually felt that "creator and creation" thing that I've heard so much about: I actually became emotionally attached to characters I created and that ... took me by suprise. In a good way.
I actually have a quite a few other ideas involving the duo, so who knows, maybe I'll make a prequel one day. Focused on 'Dalus. Maaaybe.

Next off, I started college, which has both been very new, but really exciting!
I feel like after years of IB, college has been very freeing for me, allowing me to try things I simply never had time for before!
I'm on the improv team and the student newspaper and I'll be tutoring next semester and I'm loving all my classes and ...
Yeah, it feels good. A breath of fresh air. Is that normal?
Plus, I've actually been drawing more than I was before, which makes me very happy!

So yeah, overall 2015 was a really good year for me.
I just feel like I grew a lot this year, both as a person and as an artist so ... thanks for being a part of it guys!

With that, I wish everyone a great 2016!
May it bring you joy, health and ... um, good food? Yeah, let's go with that.

See you next year!
